A little 'help' from IL-21 during persistent viral infection.
نویسنده
چکیده
Anti-viral CD4(+) T cells are required to orchestrate and sustain the activities of the adaptive immune system during a persistent viral infection. Three recent studies suggest that CD4(+) T cells accomplish this in part through the release of IL-21.

IL-21 is required to control chronic viral infection.
CD4+ and CD8+ T cell functions are rapidly aborted during chronic infection, preventing viral clearance. CD4+ T cell help is required throughout chronic infection so as to sustain CD8+ T cell responses; however, the necessary factor(s) provided by CD4+ T cells are currently unknown. Using a mouse model of chronic viral infection, we demonstrated that interleukin-21 (IL-21) is an essential compo...
متن کاملPrevalence of Persistent Bovine Viral Diarrhea Infection in Industrial Dairies of Tehran and Alborz Province, Iran
Background and Aims: Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is considered as worldwide and economically significant infection. The aim of this study was to estimate prevalence of persistent bovine viral diarrhea infection (PI) in industrial dairies of Tehran and Alborz province, Iran. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 102371 blood samples were collected from bovine of industria...
متن کاملPersistent bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection in cattle herds
Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) is a significant pathogen associated with gastrointestinal, respiratory, and reproductive diseases of cattle worldwide. It causes continuous economic losses to the cattle industry primarily due to decreased reproductive performance. The ability of virus to cross the placenta during early pregnancy can result in the birth of persistently infected (PI) calves. P...
متن کاملIL-10 and PD-L1 operate through distinct pathways to suppress T-cell activity during persistent viral infection.
Suppression of T-cell responses by host-derived regulatory factors is a key event leading to viral persistence. Antibody blockade of either IL-10 or programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) during viral persistence enhances T-cell function and reduces viral titers. Because blockade of these immunoregulatory networks represents a powerful approach to establish immune control during persistent infection...
متن کاملIL-21 Restricts Virus-driven Treg Cell Expansion in Chronic LCMV Infection
Foxp3+ regulatory T (Treg) cells are essential for the maintenance of immune homeostasis and tolerance. During viral infections, Treg cells can limit the immunopathology resulting from excessive inflammation, yet potentially inhibit effective antiviral T cell responses and promote virus persistence. We report here that the fast-replicating LCMV strain Docile triggers a massive expansion of the ...
